Whatsapp added a new feature that allows only Android, Windows, Blackberry device users to chat and receive messages through their web browser since 21 January, 2015, this option was not available for iOS users because of Apple's Platform Limitations
Now, iPhone users can now sync their account and chat on a web browser. The option to scan the QR code is already available on the Whatsapp-Web website as seen on the screenshot bellow but it is still gradually rolling out for iPhone users in the app's latest update.
WhatsappWeb is not a really important rollout but it may help users using their computer to flip from their PC to their phone to reply a message, it helps me alot too, but talking about competition, Whatsapp is lagging behind even when it hit 800 million monthly active users, it's lagging behind competitors like KakaoTalk and WeChat which are core messaging app in Asia, which means that Whatsapp has less users in Asia.
Line and WeChat had already sync their desktop client with iPhone.
