Apple loses in a German court on "Swipe to Unlock" case


Well, it's quite true that no one is above the law even Apple.
Apple Inc. has lost a ruling at a german top civil court over a patent of swiping a finger across the bottom of a screen to unlock it.

On tuesday, Judges said Apple method of unlocking its smartphone did not reach a level of sophistication that could needed to award patent protection.
An earlier patent tribunal ruling in Lenovo Group Ltd's and Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. favour.
The patent (EP1964022) was granted in 2010 and an injunction was won against Motorola smartphones (When motorola was owned by Google)in 2012
Motorola had appealed the injunction, with a decision dependent on tuesday's ruling.
Samsung Electronics Co. had initially joined Motorola Mobility in the case, but later withdrew.
The court also made known that a Swedish company call Neonode, had developed the swipe to unlock feature long before Apple ever introduced the iPhone.

In 2012, Apple won an injunction based on the patent against Motorola in a court in Munich, though the case is still pending on an appeal and was stayed to wait for Tuesday's suit outcome.
