Instagram now thinks outside the box, now allows landscape and portrait

You can't have an account on instagram and not see whitespace around other user's picture and videos because instagram must let you crop your picture to square thereby making you unhappy so most users would just go on to use other apps to letterbox their portrait or landscape images before the whole picture could fit in instagram's square cropping.

Today, yesterday the 26th of August, Instagram released an update for Android and iOS dropping its famous requirement that all photos and videos be square.
Now if you want to upload a photo or video, you will have an option on the left you could tap to choose to upload your portrait or landscape picture, even though squared cropping is highly still welcomed.

So why did Instagram initially chose the square? The story that exist is  it looked beautiful, and it looked really nice in feed when they were mocking it up the Instagram Product Manager that made today's change, Ashley Yuki.

Now Instagram users will now have to suffer looking for the best app to letterbox their pictures and videos.
